Girls’ Volleyball: How to Get Started in Ontario

Volleyball Leagues & Lessons

Getting Involved

The first step in playing volleyball is finding the right place to learn and play. Start by searching for local organizations, such as Parks and Recreation departments or the YMCA, which often run introductory “learn-to-play” programs. For a more focused experience, join a dedicated volleyball club that specializes in the sport.

In Ontario, the Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) oversees all volleyball clubs. Visit their official website (ontariovolleyball.org) and use the “Find a Club” tool to search for programs in your area.

Examples of Reputable Local Clubs

If you’re in areas like North York, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Milton, or Orangeville, check out Pakmen Volleyball Club (pakmen.com). It’s recognized as one of Canada’s premier clubs, offering programs for all ages and skill levels, from beginner “learn-to-play” sessions to elite competitive (rep) teams.

For those in Ottawa, the Maverick Volleyball Club (maverickvolleyball.ca) is a highly regarded option. With over 40 years of history in the region, they provide high-quality programs and have a strong track record, including multiple national championships.

For athletes in the GTA East, Markham Revolution Volleyball Club (markhamvolley.pointstreaksites.com) is another strong option. Based in Markham, the club offers structured development programs and competitive pathways for youth athletes, focusing on skill progression, strong coaching, and long-term player development.
